The main melody in this track is taken from an old folk tune from southern Egypt called ‘El-Bint Beddah’, which translates to ‘The Girl Is White’. The singer has seen a white girl for the first time and has fallen heeds over heals in love. There are many different lines to this tune, which is sung at almost every Egyptian wedding, so the one about how he spent all his money to marry her is a popular one, especially if the bride is white. When the bride is brown/tanned, there is a line about how the white girl broke his heart but the tanned girl mended it. The kind of skank that follows it, is known as ‘Raqsat Al-Asaa’, ‘The Cane Stick Dance’. Along with Belly Dancing it is considered a traditional Egyptian dance, even Arabian horses will start dancing when they hear the Muzmaar.
